Apoorva Mandavilli is a reporter for The New York Times, focusing on science and global health. She is the 2019 winner of the Victor Cohn Prize for Excellence in Medical Science Reporting. She is the founding editor in chief of Spectrum, an award-winning news site on autism science that reaches an audience of millions. She led the team there for 13 years. She joined The Times in May 2020, after two years as a regular contributor. Apoorva has won numerous awards for her writing. Her work has been published in The Atlantic, Slate, and The New Yorker online, and in the anthology Best American Science and Nature Writing. She co-founded Culture Dish, an organization dedicated to enhancing diversity in science journalism, and was the founding chair of the Diversity Committee for the National Association of Science Writers. Apoorva has a master-of-arts degree in journalism from New York University and a master-of-science degree in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She is fluent in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.

Ed Yong is a science journalist who reports for The Atlantic. He is based in Washington, DC. For his coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, he won the George Polk Award for science reporting; the Victor Cohn Prize for medical science reporting, the Neil and Susan Sheehan Award for investigative journalism; the John P. McGovern Award from the American Medical Writers’ Association; and the AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award for in-depth reporting. I CONTAIN MULTITUDES, his first book, looked at the amazing partnerships between animals and microbes and was a New York Times bestseller. He also has a Chatham Island black robin named after him.

Emily Anthes is a science journalist and author. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Wired, Nature, Slate, Businessweek, and elsewhere. Her magazine features have won several awards, including the AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award and the NASW Science in Society Journalism Award. She is also the author of The Great Indoors: The Surprising Science of How Buildings Shape Our Behavior, Health, and Happiness and Frankenstein’s Cat: Cuddling Up to Biotech’s Brave New Beasts. Emily has a master’s degree in science writing from MIT and a bachelor’s degree in the history of science and medicine from Yale, where she also studied creative writing. She lives in Brooklyn, New York.
